Tennessee Aquarium Research Institute

Our project goal is to reestablish a self-sustaining population of lake sturgeon in their historic range in the Tennessee River Basin. Eggs are collected each year from the state of Wisconsin and reared for release as fingerlings or juveniles into the Tennessee River system. Over 45,000 fish have been released in the past six years, with plans to continue our efforts until 2025.

The NBII Program is administered by the Biological Informatics Office of the U.S. Geological Survey
